Dogging began as the act of spying on a couple having sex in a car or public place, while remaining undetected. It is thought that the use of the word dogging started in the 1970s in the UK. Since then, the meaning of dogging has expanded to include those who engage in sexual acts in public or a semi-public place, usually in a carpark or cinema. In the early 2000s dogging received mass media attention in the UK and through the internet, dogging has become international, with adults in various countries participating in this voyeuristic and participatory act.
